An interview with Michael Brookes

Today I am starting a new feature on this blog- interviews with other Indie authors. I hope to make it a regular feature here, naturally dependent on finding victims authors who are willing to submit themselves to my questions. The first man brave enough to do so is author of The Cult of Me, Michael Brookes. Thank you, Michael for your answers.

Describe yourself in the style of a blurb for an eBook. Sell the audience the story of you.

The universe had a plan for this blonde haired villain  He would learn every lesson the hard way, or so it thought. For he was a lucky man and ended up doing a job he loved. So the universe tried again and put the love of writing into his head. Now the days seemed all too short, it was like having two jobs, but both jobs he loved. And the name of this lucky man – Michael Brookes.

What is your earliest memory involving reading books/being read to?

Reading Thomas the Tank Engine to my younger brother. They’re still fantastic books. Those and the Mr Men.

Your future self from 10 years hence visits you and hands you a copy of his #1 global bestseller, which you haven’t written yet. Do you read it and why/why not?

Of course I’d read it. I’d love to see how I’d develop my writing to become a bestseller. I’d like to think I’d make it through talent, although I’ll take a bit of luck if it’s offered.

If you could ask any author (living or dead) just one question, who would it be and what would you ask them?

Tricky question. I’d ask Ian M Banks what the excession entity is.

What is your greatest achievement in life so far?

Publishing my first book. It’s a bit obvious, but it was a good moment and I’m pretty proud of it.

What do you have to have around you (on your desk, for example) when you are writing?

I’m pretty fortunate that I can write anywhere, the only thing I need is my laptop.

If you could go back in time and meet yourself at the moment you wrote the first word of your first novel, what one piece of advice would you give yourself?

Listen to the people that provide advice and read it through one more time.

Tell us a little bit about the project you are working on currently.

I’m currently working on Conversations in the Abyss, the sequel to The Cult of Me. I’m also putting together a few short stories for an anthology.

Finally, please tell us about your latest title and where we can find you on the Interweb.

The Cult of Me is about a man who can invade other people’s minds and bend them to his will. He’s been tormenting people like this for years. He finally tires of the game and surrenders himself in preparation for a bloody last stand. While in prison he discovers he isn’t as unique as he once thought.
